In her time in Italy she came to comprehend and appreciate the philosophies behind Italian cuisine and culture which made a lasting impression on her culinary viewpoint. Burrell is a member of the Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board which brightens the lives of struggling children. Burrell is also an Juvenile diabetes Research Foundation Celebrity Advocate in which she has a mission to raise awareness for juvenile diabetics.
